Green Tea Health Benefits for Men – Total Health for Heart, Mind & Body

 

When tea is mentioned green tea is naturally one of the first teas that comes to mind. There is good reason for it. Green tea has been recorded to have been first steeped back in 2737 BC. That is well over 4000 years ago! This drink has helped shape cultures and has been recorded as being used in ceremonies prior to battle. The samurai, great warriors of Japan, have incorporated this delightful and powerful beverage into their Samurai Way. The preparation of green tea helped teach these samurai patience, discipline, focus all while providing clean energy and life.

Green tea is an ancient superfood and there is good reason for it. Due to green teas long existence throughout humanity, we are lucky to have been able to do a lot of research on it. Just as the samurai realized, we too have recognized is power packed in this drink. If the samurai incorporated this into daily life, should men today? What are the green tea health benefits for men? Below are simply a few that have been researched and recorded!

Healthier Heart

A healthy heart will keep a man young, active and feeling in his prime! So how does green tea benefit heart health? A clinical meta-analysis from the American Journal of Clinical Nutrition (1) found that by incorporating green tea into a normal routine, LDL cholesterol and triglycerides levels declined. Both of which have been linked to high fatty buildups in the arteries when elevated in the body.

How does green tea actually do this? Green tea provides a friendly compound to us known as epigallocatechin gallate, or EGCG. Atherosclerosis, is the term used for buildup of plaque within the arteries of our hearts. EGCG, according to a study done in China (2), was shown to have anti-antherosclerotic properties! Drinking green tea regularly allows your heart and arteries to remain clean and pumping at optimum capacity.

Sharper Mind

The mind…a fascinating part of the human anatomy that controls all of our functions. It is incredible to think of the power and ability the human brain has. Unfortunately, as we age, our minds begin to deteriorate. Dementia, Alzheimer’s, Parkinson’s or other age related effects are all too common in our lives, but this possibly does not have to be the case!

Many of the described neurological diseases described above have much to do with chronic inflammation. The sedentary lifestyle paired with an unhealthy diet can lead to this. Good thing for us, green tea can come to the rescue!

We look at our friend EGCG again. EGCG has been shown to significantly improve inflammation in mice thus enhancing neurogeneration (3). In relation to the neurodegenerative diseases such as Parkinson’s and Alzheimer’s, this catechin has been shown to reduce their risks (4). While there is more to be researched and learned, this is a great sign!

Leaner Body

You may have heard of the fad diets of “green tea only diets”. Most people who think about this think that the caffeine in green tea is the main reason for any weight loss associated. The green tea health benefits for men, as you may have guessed by now, not only comes from caffeine, but EGCG too!

As you may have noticed by now, EGCG is a powerful component of green tea that makes it unique above the rest! EGCG has properties that have been associated with a higher metabolism rate. This can be seen in a long term human study that showed there may be a significant association with incorporating 2 cups of green tea per day and weight loss (5). Also, when green tea is consumed 90 minutes before exercise, research has shown that fat oxidation increases during exercise (6).

When a snacking craving strikes, green tea is also great for curbing any hunger! If fasting is a part of your routine or something you are looking to incorporate, green tea is a great aid. It will provide a nice dose of caffeine that will give you enough energy to push through until your next meal.

As stated before, green tea has been shown to help diminish inflammation in the body and mind. This also includes gum inflammation that can cause diseases like gingivitis. This magical tea also has the ability to ward off unwanted bacteria that can lead to oral diseases (7).

On top of all of this, green tea does not stain your teeth nearly as bad as a cup of coffee, nor does it give you dreaded “coffee breath” for your colleagues to enjoy. All the while you still get your boost of caffeine!

Green tea was the first tea I incorporated into my diet and life. I am very glad I did, because although I was unaware of the countless green tea health benefits for men at the time, I now see the ever expanding knowledge and research done proving this is a miracle tea.

EGCG has been researched and found to have profound effects on heart health, mental clarity and longevity, and weight control.
